Size is king!
User: Ezekial Otsuka, Aug 12, 2007
Pros:
Good incoming audio and size
Cons:
terrible outgoing audio
If there is an in ear microphone, then its a secondary mic. In every photo of the H9, there is clearly a microphone hole on the outside of the unit. I wish I would have seen it before ordering. While testing it, I was in the kitchen and I had the TV on, at a low volume, in the living room. And the person on the other end said that it sounded like I was having a party. Nothing like what is advertised on any website, including Motorolas.
Most Bluetooth earpieces have some sort of blinking light. The H9 has one too. However the H9s light is the size of the unit itself. So, if you want a small unit to be inconspicuous, the light stands out like a sore thumb. It seems a little unnecessary, unless you really want to advertise that Motorola logo.
I had no problem with the volume buttons. But I really didnt have to change the volume once I set it. The whole face is the master button. So, when you push it, you have to be careful. You could easily jam the earpiece too far into your ear canal. Not that its a two handed job, but definitely a thumb, forefinger and middle finger job to push one button.
Reception was mediocre at best. It loses a bit of quality if the phone is in your pocket. On the counter or on the desk, quality improved.
The battery time is a little annoying, making the portable charger a novel necessity. But charge time is very quick. Which it should be. It only has to charge a battery big enough to power the H9 for 1.5 hours.
And finally, the last of my cons. When using voice activated calling, using just the phone, and while using my older Jabra there was always a little jingle telling me that the phone was waiting for me to say something. Not with the H9. It just waits. And after a few seconds, get a tone that indicates that the name was not recognized. I know my phone is waiting for a name if I have the phone in sight. But if I have my phone in sight, I might as well not use voice activated dialing.
I know that last con was a little picky, I just thought it wouldnt be fair if I didnt share that.
On the other side of the coin, incoming audio was great. (with good reception). Because the speaker was an earplug, and didnt sit over your ear, you could reduce the volume. And when the volume is reduced audio quality is improved.
I like the H9 for listening to my mp3s. But for making phone calls, my 2 year old Jabra is much better. My primary reason for buying the H9 was the ear canal microphone. And so far that is disappointing. I cannot recommend buying this unit to anyone interested in having a two way conversation.
Great Idea - Poor execution
User: J Maguire, Oct 21, 2007
Pros:
Size
Cons:
Battery life, poor mic performance, poor Btooth operation
I had great hopes for this. I thought the in-the-ear would solve many problems with hearing calls. I was WRONG.
1. blue tooth connection was terrible even at short distance - static. This was a KILLER.
2. People complained about the sound quality
3. Marginal use in very quiet environment - any noise and people could not hear.
4. Batt life was short
5. aggravating use - could not tell it was on, would answer 30 ft away
